A suspect has been charged for arson after allegedly lighting a fire in the stairwell of an apartment building.

Thompson RCMP arrested the woman at the scene on Carlton Place, who was found to be in possession of a knife.

The fire was extinguished, but there was damage to the stairwell and the fire department used exhaust fans to disperse the smoke.

30-year-old Eloria Grieves was taken into custody.
