CMHA's annual Mental Health Week calls for universal mental health care this year

It’s Mental Health Week, the Canadian Mental Health Association’s yearly campaign to address the stigma surrounding mental health and to advocate for improved mental health supports.

This year they’re specifically calling for universal mental health care, citing a recent survey that found 87 per cent of Canadians are for it.

The Thompson CMHA’s Kristi Gingrich elaborates that all Canadians are impacted by their mental health.

“Just like physical health, we all have mental health. The stats right now are that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health illness or wellness concern in their lifetime at least once. But still one hundred percent of us all have mental health that needs protecting, promoting and taking care of each other.”

To commemorate the campaign, the local CMHA has a week-full of events taking place around town.
