Man in hospital following officer- involved shooting in Shamattawa over Canada Day long weekend

Shamattawa RCMP is looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the community this weekend.

 

On Saturday afternoon at 1, police responded to a report of an armed man, who was allegedly walking on a road and carrying a firearm.

 

While patrolling the area, officers heard several shots being fired.

 

They headed towards the direction of the gunshots and found the suspect outside of a residence, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

 

The 22-year-old suspect from the community sustained serious injuries and was taken to the nursing station, while no officers were physically injured.

 

Manitoba’s police watchdog has been notified of the incident.
