The Independent Investigation Unit is looking into the death of man in the custody of Thompson RCMP.

On Monday evening at 6 p.m., the man was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and was held in the local detachment.

At 11 p.m, he was found unresponsive in his holding cell, and was taken to hospital where he died the following day.

Since the death occurred under the watch of the RCMP, they notified the IIU on Tuesday.
