Local police involved in collision with impaired driver on Selkirk Ave.

A Thompson driver is facing charges for impaired driving after colliding with a police cruiser.

On Sunday morning, the Thompson RCMP were responding to a call for service and driving on Selkirk Avenue, when a vehicle exiting a parking lot pulled out in front of the police car.

The officer tried to avoid colliding with the vehicle, and went onto the curb and snow bank and struck a lamp post.

The other driver’s vehicle did end up colliding with the back of the police car, but the damage was minimal.

The uninjured officers exited their cruiser and approached the other vehicle. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested and charged.

The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and was treated then released, and is scheduled to appear in court this summer.
