The Northern Health Region and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak are formalizing their commitment to ending anti-Indigenous racism in health care in the region.

Grand Chief Garrison Settee says both organizations will work together to create an agreement outlining their goals and objectives, and MKO will provide advice, guidance, and support to the NRHA.

According to the 2016 Census, Indigenous people make up 70 per cent of the population served by the health region

NRHA CEO Helga Bryant says a first step in speaking their truth is to acknowledge the wrongs of the past with honestly and humility.

Bryant goes on to state the NRHA is committed to strengthening its relationship with Indigenous partners and communities.
