Thompson workers join union members across the province for Manitoba Hydro strike

Manitoba Hydro workers in Thompson are picketing today, joining workers across the province after negotiations between the crown corporation and the workers union hit an impasse.

The notice for workers to strike was delivered this morning that all workers outside Winnipeg would commence strike action. The strike is taking place outside the Manitoba Hydro building from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or until otherwise notified.

Employees on strike include those working in customer service centres, engineering, electrical inspectors, line maintenance, diesel maintenance, and telecontrol.

Some frontline workers in Winnipeg have already been at the picket line since Tuesday, after the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2034 rejected a formal offer by Manitoba Hydro during its contract negotiations.
