SDML enrollment down about 80 students as of Sept. 30 as schools reopened during COVID-19 pandemic

At Tuesday night’s board meeting, the September attendance rates for students in the School District of Mystery Lake were highlighted as schools reopened last month in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Westwood School had the highest attendance rate at just over 96 per cent, with Wapanohk Community School having the lowest rate at nearly 68 per cent.

Co-Superintendent Lorie Henderson explained to the board that enrollment is at around 3, 083 as of September 30th, which is down around 80 students from the same time last year.

Henderson noted that as of Tuesday, eleven students are confirmed to be home schooled this year.

46 students had not attended school at all since the year began as parents may have been concerned with sending their kids back to school.

Henderson says the school district has begun a transition back-to-school program for those students to help them work their way back to in-class learning.
