2019 Water Rates Have Consumption Costs Up, While Service And Minimum Payment Fall

Some costs are up while others are down now that the 2019 water and sewer rates for the City of Thompson have been approved.

 

The Public Utilities Board of Manitoba approved the new prices through a board order on December 27th. The new rates include a decrease to the minimum quarter charge and cost of bulk water, while the costs of water over the quarterly minimum and sewage are up.

 

The minimum quarter charge dropped to $92.76 from $135.61, while the cost of bulk water dropped from $4.90 cents to $4.03.

 

The rate for water over the quarterly minimum went up 43% to $3.42, while the sewage rate is up just under 20% to $1.51. As a whole, the combined rate will be around 34% higher than last year at $4.93.

 

The fees for reconnection and hydrant rental remain will remain the same; $320 to reconnect and $125 for the hydrants.
