Pimicikamak Cree Nation is about to get a $40 million hospital, less than a year after six people committed suicide in the community. The community has been requesting a brand new hospital for over 12 years, and just after the winter which prompted a state of an emergency alert.
A Pimicikamak spokesperson says the federal government has committed $40 million to build the hospital.
The registered population of Pimicikamak is 8,365, with 5,858 registered as living on the reserve, according to Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. Pimicikamak is about 40 kilometres southwest of Thompson.
