RDPC students learning from home today following fire in school's cafeteria Nov. 24

Classes should be back on schedule today after RD Parker Collegiate had to evacuate due to a potential fire.

In a statement from Principal Bonnie Rempel posted on the school district’s Facebook page, the fire alarm at RD Parker was activated when smoke filled the cafeteria.

Staff and students were safely evacuated to the TRCC, and the local fire department was called to the school.

Students and staff are not allowed into the building today due to the maintenance department looking into the issue.

Rempel says students should be participating in their online classes today, and school is cancelled for Pathways and IDEAL students for today.

School is expected to resume tomorrow, but Rempel says families will be notified if there are any changes.

At this time, the cause of the incident has not yet been determined.
