MPI to install 2 speed display boards in Thompson in the coming months

Thompson is among the 13 municipalities that will have speed display board signs installed in the coming months as a way to encourage motorists not to speed.

The display boards are electronic signs that use radar that detect the speed of an approaching vehicle and show the speed on a LED message display.

Thompson will have two boards installed, and their locations will be determined by a public works unit.

This is a part of a pilot road safety partnership between Manitoba Public Insurance and the participating communities. MPI says the results of the pilot will be monitored to determine the success of the program.

Speed has been a major factor in road fatalities, as it was a cause in about one-in-five deaths on Manitoba roadways last year.
