The RCMP says it will examine the training given to community safety officers in Thompson after an Indigenous woman was punched unconscious at the city's detachment in 2018.
A video of what happened was made public by the media Monday and shows the woman being punched by a city safety officer.
Manitoba RCMP Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy says even though it wasn't a Mountie who struck 19-year-old Genesta Garson, it needs to ensure the safety of everyone placed in police cells.
MacLatchy says R-C-M-P are working with the province to look for different ways to help intoxicated people instead of arresting them and putting them in a jail cell.
