Valentino: Sending Representatives To FCM Trade Show Is Important

Mayor Colleen Smook, Councillor Les Ellsworth and City Manager Anthony McInnis will be in Quebec City later in the year to take part in the annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference and trade show.

Deputy Mayor Kathy Valentino spoke to Arctic Radio News and said that it’s important for the city to have representatives at events like the FCM conference, as it gives officials an opportunity to network with their counterparts from across the country and potentially bring home different ways of doing things.

Valentino added that being a member of FCM continues to benefit Thompsonites.

She said that the city is receiving over $1M in grants from the organization, which is money that doesn’t have to come out of taxpayers’ pockets.

That money includes $640,000 to help with 6.5km of new multi-use path, and $750,000 towards the new wastewater treatment plant.

The conference and trade show is scheduled for the end of May.
