Pallister Government Backs Thompson Airport

The Pallister Government is backing a funding application made by the Thompson Airport.

Thompson MLA Kelly Bindle says that the Minister of Municipal Relations, Jeff Wharton, provided the Airport Authority with a letter of support in principal.

The letter of support will be included with an application for federal funding for the Thompson Airport’s terminal redevelopment project.

Curtis Ross, the CEO of the Thompson Regional Airport Authority, said that this is one of the first times in his 15 years that the Province has shown support for the airport in "any way, shape or form."

He adds that in the past the TRAA has been stonewalled or pushed aside by the provincial government, and that the support from the minister will not go unnoticed.

Ross and the airport authority are applying for $70M from the federal government’s disaster mitigation and adaptation fund, which is for entities impacted by climate and are key points of infrastructure.
