Manitoba’s police watchdog is looking into an alleged domestic assault by an off-duty member of the Thompson RCMP detachment.
The RCMP received a report from a third party on January 6th, saying that an off-duty member was involved in an alleged domestic assault the day before.
The IIU was notified immediately, and has fully taken over the investigation.
Although there were no serious injuries, the director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba determined that it was in the best interest of the public to investigate.
It is unlikely that more information will be provided until the police watchdog has wrapped up their investigation.
The unit investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
