Possible Gunshot Behind Tuesday's Lockdown, "Hold And Secure" At R.D. Parker, Ecole Riverside School

The RCMP say a report of a possible gunshot prompted the lockdown and “hold and secure” for R.D. Parker Collegiate and Ecole Riverside School yesterday afternoon.

Thompson RCMP received a call of the possible shot around 1:30pm Tuesday, and were told the sound came from the area between the high school and elementary school.

Officers quickly made their way to the scene, and spoke with administration at both schools to make sure they knew what was going on.

In an email to parents sent around 2:30pm, R.D.P.C. principal Rob Fisher said “Today at 1:50 p.m. we had a lockdown that was initiated by the RMCP based on an incident outside of the school in a nearby community location” and that “There was no known threat to the school. We then were in a hold and secure situation from 2:10-2:20 p.m. The hold and secure and lockdown have all been lifted and we are now operational as usual.”

Despite extensive patrols of the area and interviews with numerous people, nothing further was report to police.

Constable Sandy Deibert, from the Thompson RCMP detachment, says that police maintained a presence at both schools for the duration of the school day.
