RCMP Check 1433 Vehicles, Charge 24 In Final Week Of Holiday Checkstop Program

The numbers from the final week of the RCMP’s annual holiday checkstop program are in.

Constable Sandy Deibert, from the Thompson RCMP detachment, spoke to Arctic Radio News and said that between December 24th and January 1st, there were 47 checkstops across the province and 1433 vehicles checked. The stops led to 24 people facing charges of impaired driving.

Constable Deibert added that over the month-long program, 90 people were charged with impaired driving and 32 people had their license suspended as a result of 11,714 vehicles checked during 262 checkstops. The number of vehicles checked is up from last years’ total of 8333, while the number of people charged is down from last years’ 117.

Five people lost their lives in traffic-related collisions during the duration program. That number is up from last year, when Manitoba saw only one fatality.
