Kirby Dach scored twice and the Montreal Canadiens earned a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Nick Suzuki, Arber Xhekaj and Dach gave Montreal a three-goal lead in the first period. Mike Hoffman also scored, for his third goal in two nights. Luke Schenn and Nils Hoglander replied for Vancouver.


Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will miss three to four months after being cut on the left wrist by a skate blade. The injury occurred during Edmonton's 3-2 win at Tampa Bay yesterday. Kane got tangled with Lightning defenceman Philippe Myers just inside Edmonton's defensive zone and was cut by the skate of Tampa Bay forward Pat Maroon.


Canadiens rookie Juraj Slafkovsky has been suspended two games by the N-H-L boarding Matt Luff of the Detroit Red Wings. The incident happened in Montreal's 3-2 shootout win at Detroit yesterday. The 18-year-old Slafkovsky, the first overall pick in the 2022 draft, was assessed a major and game misconduct for driving Luff headfirst into the boards with a check from behind.


Fred VanVleet and O-G Anunoby combined for 59 points to drag the lethargic Toronto Raptors to a 116-109 victory over the lowly Houston Rockets. VanVleet had seven three-pointers en route to 32 points. Anunoby scored 27 and grabbed nine rebounds in Toronto's third game without injured all-star forward Pascal Siakam.


Houston Astros general manager James Click hasn't yet agreed to a new contract with the World Series champions. He helped oversee this year's title team, but there is no guarantee a deal will be reached. His fellow general managers didn't comment directly on the Astros' situation, but praised Click's work there. The G-Ms met for the second day at a Las Vegas resort.


President Joe Biden says he hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will be more willing to negotiate the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner now that the U.S. midterm elections are over. Griner's lawyers revealed today that she had been sent to a penal colony to serve her sentence for drug possession.
