Host Australia handed Canada's women's basketball team its first lost at the FIBA (fee-bah) World Cup this morning. Ezi Magbegor scored 16 points as the Aussies topped Canada 75-72. Nirra Fields scored a game-high 17 points for Canada. With a 3-and-1 record, Canada sits tied with Australia and France for top spot in the Group B standings. Canada closes the preliminary round tomorrow against winless Mali.

Baseball fans could see history made tonight as Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. With 60 home runs, Judge is just one homer shy of Roger Maris's American League single-season record. New York can clinch the A-L East title with a win tonight. Toronto holds the top spot in the American League wild-card race.

Two Canadian teams in are in action tonight in the N-H-L pre-season. The Montreal Canadiens open their exhibition schedule at home against the New Jersey Devils, while the Edmonton Oilers host the Calgary Flames. Edmonton shut out Winnipeg 4-0 in its pre-season opener, while the Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks in a pair of split-squad games last night in Vancouver and Calgary.
