The OCN Blizzard host the Virden Oil Capitals tonight in the final regular season home game of the season. The Blizzard come into tonight’s game as one of the hottest teams in the MJHL; they’ve won five in a row and 12 of their last 13.

The Blizzard sport a record of 38-16-3 and are currently in a three-way tie for second in the MJHL with Selkirk and Winkler at 79 points.

In addition to the hot play of the team as a whole, star defenceman Brady Keeper was the recipient of three MJHL honours; league MVP, defenceman of the year and a member of the league’s first all-star team.

Keeper is set to attend the University of Maine next year to play NCAA Div-I hockey for the Black Bears.

After tonight’s game, the Blizzard will finish off their season on the road next weekend in Selkirk and Steinbach.

Former Norman Northstars standout Brady Keeper has been named MVP of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The 20 year old defender from Cross Lake, Manitoba spent three full seasons with the Blizzard, putting up 85 points in his first two seasons. He currently has 45 points heading into tonight’s affair against the Virden Oil Capitals.

Before joining the OCN Blizzard, Keeper spent a year in Thompson playing for the Norman Northstars. In 42 games with the Midget “AAA” side, Brady Keeper scored seven goals and added 18 assists for 25 points. He also served 99 minutes in the penalty box.

In addition to league MVP honours, the OCN Blizzard captain was also named MJHL defenceman of the year and named to the leagues’ first all-star team.

Keeper currently sits three points back of Dale Warkentine for the all-time Blizzard defenceman scoring record. Warkentine scored 133 points in 215 games over four seasons in OCN. Keeper scored his 130 in only 158 games.  

Brady Keeper is set to continue his hockey career next season in Maine, where he’ll suit up for the NCAA Div-I Univeristy of Maine Black Bears hockey team.

The OCN Blizzard have three games left in the regular season, with their final home game coming tonight against the Virden Oil Capitals. The game can be heard on 102.9 CJAR in The Pas or streamed online at www.thepasonline.com. Jaret Schneider will have the call with puck drop coming at 7:00.

The 47^th Munn Cup is officially underway here in Thompson.

The annual tournament, hosted by the Thompson Minor Hockey Association, will run until Sunday, when the six different championships will be awarded.

Games will run until around 8:30 tonight, tomorrow from 8:00am until 9:00pm, and Sunday from 8:00am until 5:30pm. The games will be played at both the C.A. Nesbitt Arena as well as the Gordon Beard Arena.

There are 18 teams in this year’s tournament, including two from Thompson as well as teams from Arviat and Rankin Inlet in Nunavut.

The Norman Wild are in Winnipeg to play their first round playoff series against the Winnipeg Avros.

The Wild, who finished in sixth place with a record of 9-18-1, need to win one of the three weekend games to bring the series back to Thompson. The Avros finished the season with a record of 20-8 in third place

The Wild will be looking to captain Kali Cummings up front, who leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists. She is coming off a goal and assists last weekend in two games against the Pembina Valley Hawks.

The first game of the series takes place tonight at 7, game two tomorrow at 4:45, and the third game will be played Sunday at 11:45am.

The Norman Northstars look to finish off their 2016/2017 campaign on a winning note as they host the Parkland Rangers for a pair of games.

The Northstars are coming off a pair of losses last weekend at the hands of the Central Plains Capitals.

This weekend will be hard for over half of the team, as 12 Northstars will be too old to return to “AAA” hockey next season.

Tomorrow’s game will get underway at 7:30 while the season-closer on Sunday will start at 1:30

The OCN Blizzard are in action this weekend, hosting the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for a pair of games.

OCN is coming off a 4-0 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Tuesday, and hope to improve on their 34-16-3 record. The Blizzard, who have already secured an MJHL playoff spot, currently sit at 71 points, four back of the third-place Selkirk Steelers. The Blizzard have three games in had on Selkirk.

Waywayseecappo currently sits in the basement of the MJHL, with a record of 13-35-4 and 30 points.

The Blizzard and Wolverines first game is tonight at the Roy H. Johnson Arena at 7:00, while tomorrow’s affair is back at the GLMC.

The OCN Blizzard only have three games left in the regular season after this weekend; two on the road against Winker and Winnipeg before hosting Virden at home to close out the year.

The Flin Flon Bombers will make the trip to Nipawin tomorrow to play their lone weekend game against the Hawks.

The Bombers are coming off a 7-3 loss to Nipawin Tuesday.

Flin Flon currently sits two points ahead of the Hawks in Sherwood division standings. Nipawin has two games in hand.

The Bombers have three games left in the regular season, including tomorrow’s affair, and it’s crucial to come away with as many points as possible if they hope to win the division.

Flin Flon will close out the season next weekend, when they host Humboldt and Melfort.

The Wheaties are playing a pair of games this weekend, hosting Regina tonight and Prince Albert tomorrow.

Brandon currently sits seventh in the WHL Eastern Conference with a record of 27-22-6-2.

The Wheat Kings are 1-3 in their season series with the Regina Pats and are 1-2 against the Prince Albert Raiders.

Both games get underway at 7:30.

The Jets will visit Montreal and Ottawa this weekend on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The 26-29-5 Jets have 57 points on the season, and currently sit four points back of Calgary for the final Western Conference wild card spot.

Winnipeg is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Pittsburgh, where Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scored his 1000^th career point.

Patrick Laine, Paul Postma and Dustin Byfuglien scored the Jets’ goals.

Jeremy Dumont led the way with a pair of goals while George King added two goals as the OCN Blizzard shut out the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-0 last night at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre.

Travis Roch opened up the scoring with five minutes remaining the first period for OCN and the Blizzard never looked back.

Anthony Keeper had the other Blizzard goal.

Brett Epp was solid between the pipes yet again for OCN as he recorded his third shutout of the season and was named the games’ first star.

With the win, the Blizzard improve to 34-16-3, four points back of the Selkirk Steelers for third place in the MJHL.

The Blizzard are next in action Friday as they visit the last-placed Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

The Bombers dropped a 7-3 decision to the Nipawin Hawks last night at the Whitney Forum.

The Hawks scored two early first period goals to take a 2-0 lead and ran away with the game, leaving the first period with a 5-1 lead.

Bombers starting goalie Zac Robidoux was pulled just 5:54 into the first period after giving up the second goal.

Josh Bly led the way for Nipawin with two goals and two assists.

Kristian St. Onge led the way for Flin Flon with a goal and an assist.

The nationally-ranked Bombers are next in action Saturday as they travel to Nipawin for a rematch with the Hawks.

Brandon Lesko of the Flin Flon Bombers has been named SJHL player of the week.

The 18-year-old native of Hafford, Saskatchewan potted three goals and added three helpers as the Bombers topped the Ice Wolves in both games of their weekend home-and-home.

Lesko is in his third season with the Bombers, after being traded from the Battleford North Stars in the middle of the 2014-2015 season.

Lesko currently sits fifth in team scoring with 20 goals and 23 assists for 43 points in 43 games played.

The Bombers have once again been named to the CJHL Weekly Top 20 list, coming in at number 20.

The ranking comes after Flin Flon swept the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a weekend series.

The Bombers dominated the first game of the weekend home-and home 11-0 before topping the Ice Wolves 4-3 on Saturday.

Only one other SJHL team made the weekly rankings. The league-leading Battleford North Stars moved up one spot from 8 to 7.

Flin Flon is next in action tonight as they host the Nipawin Hawks.

The Norman Wild Female Midget “AAA” team hosted the Pembina Valley Hawks for their final two games of the regular season before the playoffs.

On Friday night at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena, the Wild and Hawks battled hard through the first period, before the squad from Pembina Valley took the lead with two unanswered second period goals and never looked back.

The Wolves would add another pair of goals in the third to finalize a 5-2 victory.

Rachel O’Toole and captain Kali Cummings had the goals for the Norman side in the loss.

Saturday afternoon was a game the team needs to just forget.

Mackenzie McCallum led the way for the Hawks with four points as the Pembina Valley side routed the Wild 9-2. Kelly-Rae Zdan scored a hat trick. Saige McKay and Megan Quesnel had the goals for the Wild.

The Norman Wild finished the regular season with a record of 9-18-1 and will start their playoff run next weekend on the road.

The Norman Wolves Bantam “AAA” squad hosted the Interlake Lightning over the weekend.

Saturday saw the Norman squad come out on top in a close one, 3-2.

On Sunday, the Wolves got out to an early lead but couldn’t hold on as the Lighting went on to win 7-5.

The Norman Northstars hosted the Central Plains Capitals over the weekend at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.

Before the game got underway Saturday night, two players were honoured by the Northstars for reaching 100 games played. Michael Venne and Ethan Stuckless both received a certificate and commemorative watch from Norman Northstars President Brad Salamandyk .

Once the puck dropped, the atmosphere of those in attendance quickly changed. The Capitals struck quickly and left the first period with a 5-0 lead.

Central Plains went on to add three more in the second and two in the third. Zak Smith led the way for the Capitals with two goals and two assists.

Norman Northstars leading scorer Dennis Scatch potted his 14^th of the year, the lone goal of the night for the Norman side, as the Capitals won 10-1.

Sunday afternoon saw the Capitals once again get out to an early lead, this time leading 1-0 after the first period.

The Central Plains side would go on to add six more to skate away with a 7-1 victory.

The Capitals went five for ten on the powerplay, with Zak Smith, Lane Taylor and Reilly Funk each netting three points.

Keith Blacksmith scored his first goal for the Northstars from Alex Murray and Hunter Rambow in the loss.

With the weekend losses, the Northstars fall to 7-34-0-0-1.

The Norman Northstars will close out the season at home this weekend as the 16-21-0-1-3 Parkland Rangers visit Thompson.

The OCN Blizzard had a quiet weekend, with only one game being played.

The Blizzard welcomed the Selkirk Steelers to the GLMC on Saturday night in a battle for third place in the MJHL.

It was a close fought game, with the Steelers coming out on top 2-0.

The game was scoreless until the 3:12 mark of the third period when Jake Dudar opened the scoring for Selkirk on the powerplay. Cole McCartan would add another powerplay marker three minutes later to double the lead.

Hayden Dola made 35 saves for the Steelers to pick up the shutout, while Brett Epp made 36 saves for the Blizzard in the loss.

OCN now sits fourth in the MJHL with a record of 33-16-3.

It was all Bombers in the first of a home-and-home series with the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday evening.

Flin Flon pelted La Ronge goalie Luke Lush with 76 shots, putting 11 by him, to win 11-0.

Brandon Lesko led the way for the Bombers with five points (3G, 2A), while Jason Lavallee (1G, 3A), Brody Madarash (1G, 1A), Eric Sinclair (1G, 2A) and Nick Shumlanski (1G, 1A)  put up multi-point performances.

Brenden Newton made 16 saves to pick up the shutout in.

The game was anything but a blowout Saturday when the teams played again in La Ronge.

The Bombers got out to an early 3-0 first period lead before the Ice Wolves answered back in the second with two of their own.

Rylee Zimmer scored his 18^th of the year early in the third to make it a 4-2 game, before Austin Shumanski brought La Ronge within one with his second of the season.

The game would end that way, 4-3, with Gunnar Neilsen picking up his third win of the season with the Bombers after coming over from the Kindersley Klippers.

With the wins, Flin Flon has improved to 34-12-2-3 on the season with 73 points, 12 back of the Battleford North Stars.

The Norman Northstars are once again in Thompson this weekend as they host the Central Plains Capitals.

The 22-15-2-1 Capitals are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Eastman Selects last Saturday, and currently have a three game losing streak.

Joey Moffat leads the Capitals up front with 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 points in 40 games. The 2001-born forward from Portage la Prairie was taken with the 201^st pick (10^th round) in last years’ WHL Bantam Draft by the Saskatoon Blades.

The 7-32-0-1 Northstars are coming off a split weekend against the Southwest Cougars, where they won on Saturday but lost the Sunday afternoon affair.

The Northstars and Capitals will take to the ice of the C.A. Nesbitt, as always, on Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 1:30.

The Norman Wild Midget AAA wrap up their 2016-2017 regular season this weekend with a pair of games against the Pembina Valley Hawks.

The Wild currently sit 6th in the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League with a record of 9-16-1.

The Norman Wild have been led up front all season by Kali Cummings, who leads the team in points with 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points. Annaliese Meier leads the team in goals in 10. Shayna Moore has led the way between the pipes for most of the season, posting a 5-9-1 record with a 2.53 GAA and a 0.927 save percentage.

Their opponent this weekend, Pembina Valley, sits fourth with a record of 18-6-2. The team is being lead by alternate captain Sage McElroy-Scott, who has posted 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 26 games.

The Hawks are coming off a pair of losses at the end of January, one to the Westman Wildcats and the other to the Central Plains Capitals.

The Wild last played in January, where they went 2-1 in a weekend set against the Winnipeg Avros and Interlake Lightning.

The Wild and Hawks will play tonight at 8:00 at the C.A. Nesbitt before wrapping up the regular season Saturday at noon.

The Flin Flon Bombers are back in action this weekend with two games as the SJHL playoffs start to near.

The Bombers will play The La Ronge Ice Wolves in a back-to-back home-and-home series.

Flin Flon will host La Ronge at the Whitney Forum today at 7:30 before making the 4½ hour drive to La Ronge for a Saturday afternoon tilt.

The Bombers are coming off two straight losses last weekend after a five game win streak and are looking to get back on track.

Zac Robidoux has led the way between the pipes for the Flin Flon Bombers, posting an impressive 16-5-3 record in 25 games. He currently sits fourth in the SJHL for both save percentage (0.925) and goals against average (2.13).

Flin Flon has locked up a spot in the SJHL playoffs with a record of 32-12-2-3 through 49 games, but need to keep their foot on the gas if they want to win the Sherwood division. The Nipawin Hawks are just two points back of the Bombers with two games in hand.

The OCN Blizzard will play one game this weekend, tomorrow, as they host the Selkirk Steelers.

The Blizzard and Steelers are currently tied in the MJHL standings with 69 points. OCN however holds the tiebreak advantage and sits in third while Selkirk sits in fourth.

OCN comes into the game tomorrow riding a seven game win streak, thanks to strong performances offensively by Brady Keeper, George King and Tristen Elie while Brett Epp has been solid as ever in net.

Selkirk comes north to OCN after a loss on Tuesday at the hands of the Winkler Flyers.

The Winnipeg Jets will host back-to-back games at the MTS Centre this weekend.

Winnipeg currently sits six points back of the final wildcard spot in the western conference with a record of 25-27-4 and 54 points.

Tonight, in the first game, divisional rivals Chicago are in town. The Blackhawks come into tonight’s game on a three game win streak, having beat the Wild 4-3 in their last game.

On Saturday, the Jets welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning, like the Jets, sit six points back of the final eastern conference wildcard spot with 54 points.

The Brandon Wheat Kings will play two games this weekend; one at home tonight at Westman Place against the Everett Silvertips before taking the bus to Saskatchewan to play the Saskatoon Blades at the SaskTel Centre on Saturday.

The Wheaties currently sit seventh in the eastern conference with a record of 16-20-5-2.

Tonight’s game will be the first and only time Brandon and Everett will play this season. The Silvertips sit second in the western conference with a record of 31-11-8-2.

The Wheat Kings and Blades will meet for the fifth time this season Saturday night in Saskatoon. The Wheaties currently lead the season series 4-1. The last time they met, Brandon edged Saskatoon 3-2 on December 17^th with Connor Gutenberg scoring the game winner in the third period.

The Wheaties have 17 regular season games left on the schedule after this weekend.

Yesterday, Baseball Canada unveiled the roster for the upcoming 2017 World Baseball Classic.

The roster includes former Cy-Young award winner Eric Gagne (Free agent; Montreal, QC), Justin Morneau (Free agent; New Westminster, B.C), John Axford (Oakland Athletics; Simcoe, ON) and Dalton Pompey (Toronto Blue Jays; Mississauga, ON).

Notable omissions from the team include Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin, former Blue Jays Michael Saunders and Brett Lawrie as well as Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto.  

Saunders' bat will be sorely missed, as he was named to the All-WBC team and led the tournament in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS the last time the tournament was played in 2013.

Canada is in group C for the 2017 WBC, which includes Colombia, the Dominican Republic and the United States.

The 16-team tournament will get underway March 6^th, with Canada's first game coming on the 9^th against the defending champions, the Dominican Republic.

Canada was eliminated in the first round in the 2013 World Baseball Classic after posting a 1-2 record.

The Wheaties were in action last night as they welcomed the Moose Jaw Warriors.

It was a close-fought affair with the Warriors coming out on top in overtime 4-3. Thomas Foster scored the game winner for Moose Jaw.

Stelio Mattheos led the way up front for Brandon with two goals and an assist. Nolan Patrick was held to one assist, while Tyler Coulter picked up two helpers.

The Wheaties currently sit fourth in the WHL’s eastern division with a record of 26-20-5-2 and 59 points.

The Wheat Kings next game is Friday when they welcome the Silvertips.

The Winnipeg Jets fell to the Minnesota Wild at home last night, 4-2.

The Wild were powered by Jason Pominville, who scored two goals and had two assists. Nino Neiderreiter had the other Minnesota tallies.

Bryan Little and Joel Armia scored for the Jets in the losing effort.

Ondrej Pavelec was pulled after allowing three unanswered goals.

With the loss, the Jets now sit five points back of Calgary for the last Western Conference wild card playoff spot.

Winnipeg next plays Friday when they host the Chicago Blackhawks.

The OCN Blizzard extended their win streak to seven in a row last nightas they defeated the Dauphin Kings last night 4-2.

The Blizzard were lead up front with three 3-point performances. Reigning MJHL player of the month George King as well as newcomer Tristen Elie each had two goals and an assist while Jeremy Dumont picked up three helpers.

Elie joined OCN in January, having spent the season with the Cornwall Nationals of the Federal Hockey League, putting up one goal and ten assists in 17 games. Previously, Elie split his junior hockey career between the London Knights (OHL), Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL), London Nationals (GOJHL), Cornwall Colts (CCHL) and the Hawkesbury Hawks (CCHL). The 20-year-old forward from Alexandria, Ontario has 16 points in nine games for the Blizzard, only failing to get on the score sheet in two games.

Between the pipes Brett Epp stopped 28 of 30 shots to earn his 20^th win of the season.

The Blizzard currently sit third in MJHL standings, with a record of 33-15-3.

The OCN Blizzard are next in action Saturday as they welcome the Selkirk Steelers.

Ian Wild and Matthias Goossen of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were in Thompson early this week.

Wild and Goossen delivered presentations on the Break The Silence on Violence Against Women, Bombers Tackle Bullying  (in partnership with Manitoba Status of Women) and the Canadian Red Cross' Beyond the Hurt program at four different schools; one in Wabowden and three in Thompson.

The pair both said that they were more than willing to give their time for the students here in the north despite the CFL season being almost half a year away.

Goossen said that this is an area of the province that doesn't get to see as many professional athletes and that the message they brought was extremely important for everyone, regardless of where they live.

The Bombers spent Monday evening with the Boys and Girls Club of Thompson, hanging out with the kids for over two hours.

Ian Wild told CHTM that the Boys and Girls Club holds a special place for him, as he was a part of the club when he was growing up and remembers when pro players would visit his school as a kid. He added that the visits had an impact on his formative years, and wants to do the same for future generations

The Flin Flon Bombers were named once again to the CJHL Top 20 team list earlier today.

The Bombers come in at number 20, the same spot they held last week.

Flin Flon currently sits first in the Sherwood division with a record of 32-12-2-3.

The Bombers are 10 points back of the SJHL-leading Battleford North Stars, who are number eight on the CJHL list.

One other SJHL team was mentioned in the weekly CJHL press release. The Nipawin Hawks, who sit behind the Bombers in the standings, received an honourable mention.

The CJHL Top 20 list comes out every week and is based on a variety of factors, including the league in which the team plays, winning percentage, win-loss record, total points accumulated, goals-for versus goals-against ratio and other statistics.

The Norman Northstars split their series with the Southwest Cougars over the weekend.

The Northstars picked up the win in the Saturday game six-five thanks to five multi-point performances.

Alex Murray and Henry Muchikekwanape each had a goal and two assists to lead the way while Allan Kohli made 24 saves.

On Sunday, it was the Cougars who came out on top.

Tanner Andrew and Dylan Fontaine each had a goal and assist for Southwest as they beat the Northstars 4-2.

Alex Murray and Ethan Stuckless had the goals for the Northstars.

The Norman Northstars will host the Central Plains Capitals on the weekend.

The OCN Blizzard swept their weekend series against the Neepawa Natives.

The Blizzard edge out the Natives 5-4 on Friday thanks to late third-period heroics from Justin Nachbaur, who scored the game winner with seven seconds left in the game.

On Satudray, the Blizzard doubled up on the Natives 6-3 thanks to a hat-trick from former Norman Northstar and future University of Maine Black Bear, Brady Keeper.

With the wins, the Blizzard are just two points back of third in the league.

Jets were in Colorado over the weekend to play the Avalanche.

Despite a pair of goals from Adam Lowry, Winnipeg dropped the Saturday afternoon affair 5-2.

Ondrej Pavelec had 23 saves in the loss.

The Jets fell to 25-26-4 on the season, three points back of the final wild card spot in the West.

They next play Tuesday as they host the Minnesota Wild.

The Flin Flon Bombers had their win-streak snapped Saturday as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

The Bombers got out to a 1-0 lead in the second period thanks to Eric Sinclair’s 13^th of the season, but the Hounds responded with three of their own in the third period to overpower Flin Flon.

Flin Flon also lost on Sunday, falling 4-2 to Estevan. Zac Robidoux made 29 saves, but that wasn’t enough to stop the Bruins, who were lead by two goals from Josh Rieger. 

The Bombers sit at 32-12-2-3 with six games left in the regular season. They next play Friday at home against La Ronge Ice Wolves.

The Patriots were victorious yesterday in Super Bowl 51, beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime.

New England quarterback Tom Brady was named MVP of the game for the fourth time in his career after leading the Pats to their fifth title in franchise history.

Atlanta lead the game 23-3 at halftime and 28-9 after three quarters before the Patriots stormed back with 19 fourth quarter points before winning in overtime.

The Jets beat the Stars in Dallas last night thanks to two goals from Mark Scheifele and 39 saves from Ondrej Pavelec.

Bryan Little got the ball rolling for Winnipeg in the first period with his 14^th of the season from Ehlers and Laine.

Scheifele had his 24^th and 25^th of the season while Ehlers potted his 19^th of the season to round out the scoring for the Jets. Rookie Patrick Laine ended the game with two assists.

Klingberg, Jamie Benn and Patrick Eaves had the Dallas goals.

The Jets continue to sit just on the cusp of the playoffs, one point back of the Blues for the final wild card spot in the west.

Winnipeg is next in action tomorrow in Colorado against the last-placed Avalanche.

The Flin Flon Bombers took on the Millionaires last night in Melville and came away with a 6-1 win.

Melville took an early 1-0 lead a minute into the game thanks to Tucker Scantlebury's 12^th goal of the season.

Eric Sinclair responded 12 minutes later for the Bombers with his first of two on the night and 11^th of the season.

His second of the game (12^th of the season) came almost three minutes into the second period, the first of five unanswered Flin Flon goals.

Medicine Hat, Alberta native Brenden Newton put up 16 saves to earn his 14^th win of the season.

With the win, the Bombers have now won five in a row and 10 of their last 11.

Flin Flon's next game is tomorrow as they visit the 18-20-5-1 Notre Dame Hounds.

The Norman Northstars are in action this weekend as they host the Southwest Cougars tomorrow and Sunday.

Tomorrow’s game is 7:30pm and can be heard on 102.9 CHTM while Sunday’s contest will go at 1:30pm.

The Northstars (with a current record of 6-31) are in the middle of a four game losing streak, falling to the Kenora Thistles and Winnipeg Thrashers on the road last weekend.

The Cougars (14-20) come to Thompson also in the middle of a four game losing streak, coming up short against Eastman, Pembina Valley and Brandon last weekend.

The Northstars have four games left in the 2016/2017 after this weekend; all at home.

The OCN Blizzard are hosting the Neepawa Natives for two games this weekend, starting tonight.

The Blizzard come into the game sporting a 30-15-3 record, good enough 63 points and for fourth place overall in the MJHL. They’re currently 18 points back of the Steinbach Pistons. They’re in the middle of four game win streak, with their latest win coming last Saturday against the visiting Winkler Flyers.

Neepawa on the other hand find themselves near the bottom of the league with a 12-28-5 record and 29 points.

OCN forward George King was recently named the MJHL player of the month for January. King scored in 10 of 12 games in January. King had three multi-point games during the month including a massive five point performance (2G, 3A) on the 25^th against Swan Lake. He is currently riding a five game point streak and sits second in team scoring with 37 points (27G, 10A).

Blizzard goalie Brett Epp was also honoured by the league, being named runner-up for MJHL goalie of the month. Epp went 7-4 in January, including a shutout against the Winkler Flyers on January 28^th. Epp is in his second season with the OCN Blizzard after coming over from the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL last season. The Edmonton native is 18-9 on the season with a 2.69 GAA and .916 SV% with two shutouts.

The Blizzard have eight games left in the regular season after the weekend. All of the remaining games will be played at home, except for February 21^st and 22^nd, when they visit the Winker Flyers and Winnipeg Blues.

Last night the Bombers took on the Mustangs in Melfort in the only SJHL game of the night.

Flin Flon jumped out to a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period thanks to Cory Thomas’ second goal of the season.

Nick Shumlanski added his 13^th three minutes later to double the Bombers’ lead, and the team never looked back.

Sobkowicz, McCausland and Nyman added the other goals for Flin Flon. Tyler Heidt scored the loan goal for Melfort on the powerplay.

Winnipeg native Zac Robidoux made 25 saves to pick up his 16^th win of the season.

Flin Flon currently sits first in the Sherwood division with 67 points, six points up on the Nipawin Hawks.

The Bombers are second in the SJHL only to the Battleford North Stars, who are running away from the rest of the league with a 37-8-1 record.

Last night the Winnipeg Jets kicked off the second half of the season on a high note, beating the Blues 5-3 at the Scottrade Center in St Louis.

Alex Steen opened the scoring for the Blues early in the first, but Mark Scheifele evened things up with his 23^rd goal of the campaign late in the period and the Jets never looked back.

Laine, Ehlers, Trouba and Wheeler potted the other Winnipeg goals while St Louis sniper Vladimir Tarasenko and captain Alex Pietrangelo added the other Blues goals.

Scheifele and Wheeler both had three point games, with Scheifele earning honours as the first star of the game.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24 of 27 en route to his third win of the season in the five games he’s played.

He currently has a record of 3-2-0 with a GAA of 3.25 and a .893 save percentage.

With the win, the Jets improved to 24-25-4 on the season. Winnipeg is currently one point back of the second Western Conference wild card spot currently being held by the Blues.

The Jets next play Tuesday in Dallas against the Stars.

The St Louis Blues made two coaching changes following last night’s 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

Head coach Ken Hitchcock, as well as goalie coach Jim Corsi, were let go by General Manager Doug Armstrong.

Hitchcock will be replaced by former Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo (who had been serving as an associate coach and was slated to take over as the bench boss next season) while Martin Brodeur and Ty Conklin will share the goalie coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the season.

Ken Hitchcock was on a one-year contract for the season, as he had announced that this season would be his last with the team.

Hitchcock is 248-123-41 in six seasons with the Blues and 781-473-111 in his 20-year NHL coaching career. He is currently one win shy of tying Al Arbour for third in all-time coaching wins.

Hitchcock won the Stanley Cup in 1999 as the coach of the Dallas Stars and has made the playoffs 13 of 14 seasons when he was in charge for the whole year.

GM Doug Armstrong says that it’s his fault that the team is off track this season and his job as well to get them back on track. He also said that Hitchcock is a Hall of Fame coach as well as one of his best friends.

The first game for new head coach Mike Yeo will be tomorrow when the Blues host the Maple Leafs.

The Wheat Kings were in action last night as they visited the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Wheaties jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and took a 3-2 lead into the third period, but were unable to hold on for the W, falling 4-3 in the shootout.

Hurricanes Captain was the hero of the night, tying the game with his 36^th goal of the season with around six minutes left in the third period.

Giorgio Estephan scored the only goal on either team in the shootout, giving his Hurricanes the win.

Tanner Kaspcik, Nolan Patrick and Reid Duke potted the goals for Brandon in the loss.

The next game for the Wheat Kings is Friday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.
