Norman Northstars Lose Top Player To MJHL Powerhouse

The Norman Northstars will have to make due without a top player this season.

Sheldin Howard was set to be one of the returning players to the Midget "AAA" Nor-Man squad, having put up 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) in 46 games played. He was part of the Northstars top line with Hunter Rambow and Jamie Valentino, who together combined for almost a third of all goals scored by the team.

Despite having made the team again, Howard will be spending the season playing Junior "A" hockey in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The 16-year-old Thompsonite went down to Portage la Prairie for the Portage Terriers training camp, and made an immediate impact with multiple points in his first exhibition game.

Terriers head coach and general manager Blake Spiller was impressed with Howard's play, adding the big forward to the regular season roster. He's joined on the Terriers roster by five other recent Manitoba "AAA" Midget graduates; Miles Minor (Winnipeg Wild), Tyler van Deynze (Central Plains), Logan Calder (Central Plains), Reilly Funk (Central Plains) and Kolton Shindle (Pembina Valley).

Howard made an immediate impact in the season opener for Portage, scoring a goal and adding an assist in their 9-1 victory over the Winnipeg Blues.
