Northstars Drop Second Home Series Of 2018

The Northstars are still in search of their first home win of 2018 after dropping the second game of the weekend to the Winnipeg Wild.

The NorMan squad started off the Saturday night affair on the right foot, with alternate captain Keistin Saunders putting the puck past Wild goalie Miles Minor just two minutes into the game. Unfortunately, Winnipeg would score eight unanswered goals in response. Five of those goals came in the first period.

The Wild would add three to start the second frame, which saw Northstars goaltender Keian Weseen’s night end between the pipes. “AP” call-up Skylar Szocs would come in for his third taste of Midget “AAA” action.

The NorMan squad responded to the goalie change, as Hunter Rambow scored 21 seconds later to make it 8-2. Mikey Baron and Branden Hill picked up the assists.

Winnipeg once again responded to the Northstars goal with a slew of unanswered tallies, this time with six. Mitchell Joss, coming off a six-point night on Friday, scored five minutes after Rambow, and was followed by Mikol Sartor’s second of the game two minutes later.

Steinbach Pistons prospect and Bemidji State University commit, Kyle Bettens, would score his second of the game 43 seconds into the third period to give the Wild an 11-2 lead. Bettens would finish the night with six points (2G, 4A) which brought his weekend total to 10 points (3G, 7A). He currently leads the league in scoring with 69 points.

Mitchell Reid would add the final goal of the game, which made the score 14-3. The goal was Reid’s 16th of the season, which leads the Northstars. He now sits second on the team scoring chart with 26 points, tied with Sheldin Howard and captain Jerome Linklater. Rambow continues to lead the team with 31 points in 38 games played.

The Northstars are in action once again this upcoming weekend, as they host the Eastman Selects. The two teams have played twice this season in Beausejour. The Selects took the first game back on November 24th by a score of 9-3. The NorMan side took their second meeting on January 12th 5-4 in overtime.
