OCN Blizzard Open Season With Win Streak

The MJHL season kicked off over the weekend, and the OCN Blizzard are one of four teams sitting atop of the league with a perfect 2-0 record.

The Blizzard opened up at home Friday evening against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, and survived a late comeback to win 2-1. Tony Apetagon opened up the scoring for OCN in the first period, and Daniel Chartrant netted the game-winner in the second period. Macklin McPhee scored early in the third period for the Wolverines. The game featured two members of the 2016/2017 Norman Northstars, Hunter Halcrow and Ethan Stuckless.

Saturday saw the Blizzard welcome the Swan Valley Stampeders to the GLMC, and once again OCN was able to skate away with a narrow one goal victory. The Stampeders got out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Shane Roulette. Tony Apetagon and Daniel Chartrand answered back with their second goals of the season in the second period for Blizzard, who took a 2-1 lead into the third. Roulette potted his second of the game, and the season, early in the third to tie up the game and force overtime. Lantz Hiebert scored the game winner three minutes into the extra frame to push the Blizzard to a 2-0 record.

Newcomer Dorian Laganiere picked up a win in both games over the weekend for the Blizzard. He currently has a 1.46 GAA. The 5’11”, 181lbs goalie from Granby, Quebec split the 2016/2017 season with four different teams, the Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL), Revelstoke Grizzlies (KIJHL), Golden Rockets (KIJHL) and Nelson Leafs (KIJHL).

The Blizzard will look to continue their perfect start to the season tomorrow as they welcome the Dauphin Kings to the GLMC. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
