Vegas Golden Knights Announce Roster

The first roster for the expansion Vegas Golden Knights was announced last night during the 2017 NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

Notable picks by the Knights include goalie Marc-Andre Fleury from the Pittsburgh Penguins, forward James Neal from the Nashville Predators, and forward David Perron from the St Louis Blues.

The Winnipeg Jets will be without the services of Chris Thorburn next season, as Vegas took the physical forward in the expansion draft. The Jets also acquired the 24th overall pick in tomorrow’s entry draft from Vegas in exchange for the 13th overall pick and a third-round pick in 2019. The trade was made by Winnipeg to ensure that Vegas would select Thorburn.

The Jets weren’t the only team making deals with the Golden Knights, who acquired 11 draft picks (in addition to the two from the Jets) and seven players in deals to protect certain players in the expansion draft. 10 deals in total were made.

Though they are all Golden Knights for today, many hockey insiders believe multiple players on the roster are bound for other teams and will be traded tomorrow at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago.
