Goldeyes Fall In Extra Innings

The Winnipeg Goldeyes and Lincoln Saltdogs went the distance in last night’s game, which ended with the Saltdogs coming out on top 4-3 in 12 innings.

 

Lincoln got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to the first of two RBI’s on the night for both Dashenko Ricardo and Matty Johnson. The Goldeyes would drive in three in the third off the bats of Josh Romanksi and David Bergin, but the Saltdogs would answer back in the fourth as Matty Johnson drove in Christian Ibarra with a single to tie the game at three. Lincoln catcher Dashenko Ricardo hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning to plate Cesar Valera and give the Saltdogs the win.

 

A total of 10 pitchers took part in the game, which lasted just over four hours. Mikey O’Brien got the start for Winnipeg while Ben McKendall got the ball for Lincoln. Both picked up no-decisions. Dominican Republic native Leuris Gomez would pick up the win for the Saltdogs, recording three strikeouts and two hits over two innings of work. Goldeyes closer Ryan Chaffee picked up the loss for Winnipeg, picking up his first loss of the season after allowing three walks , one hit and one run in the 12th .

 

The Winnipeg Goldeyes will finish off their three game set with the Saltdogs tonight at 6:45 in Lincoln, Nebraska. After tonight, they head to St. Paul, Minnesota for a four game set with the division leading Saints.
