Goldeyes Drop Second Game In A Row

The Winnipeg Goldeyes opened up a series in Lincoln, Nebraska last night against the Lincoln Saltdogs and came up short, losing 7-4.

Winnipeg got out to an early lead in the first inning thanks to a two-run homer from veteran Reggie Abercrombie, but Lincoln stayed right with them, as Curt Smith drove in Matty Johnson to bring the Saltdogs within one.

Lincoln would add two more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to seal the victory. Hawaii native J.R. Bunda picked up the win coming out of the bullpen, his fifth of the season, for one innings worth of work. Righty Michael Wagner picked up the save.

Zack Dodson got the start for the Goldeyes, and went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits while fanning five. He picked up the no-decision. Reliever Victor Capellan picked up the loss, his third of the year, over 1.2 innings where he gave up four runs.

With the loss, the Goldeyes continue to sit two games back of the American Association North Division leading St Paul Saints.

Game two of Winnipeg’s three game series with Lincoln goes tonight with first pitch scheduled for just after 6:45pm.
