Thompson may be looking at getting the Manitoba Games two years sooner than they originally thought.

According to a source, Manitoba Sport is looking at giving Thompson the chance to host the 2018 Winter Manitoba Games.

The games were intended to be hosted by Virden, but the city made the decision not to host after figuring that they would not have enough volunteers for the events.

Thompson was originally looking at going through the bidding process for the 2020 Summer Games.

The last time a Northern Community has hosted the Games was when OCN had the event in 2002.
