City Council Approves 2018 Fee And Fine Schedule

City Council approved the fee and fine schedule for 2018 at the last regular meeting of Council, but not without opposition from Councillor Duncan Wong.

Wong said he’d like to support the schedule, but couldn’t agree on the charges for a broken water meter.

He said that he doesn’t believe that a rate-payer would intentionally break the meter, and that there should be a discussion as to who would pay to replace a battery for a meter, since the actual meters are owned by the City.

He added that if they can determine that the meter was damaged intentionally, he’s in full support of charging the guilty party.

The vote was recorded, at the request of Councillor Wong, and was passed by a vote of seven-two, with Councillors Wong and Kolada voting in opposition.

The next regular meeting of Thompson City Council is scheduled for Monday.
