MP Niki Ashton Releases Statement On Churchill

Even though local MP Niki Ashton is now the mother of twin boys, she is still fighting hard in the House of Commons to restore rail service to Churchill.

She opened by saying that the situation started in 1997 when the federal government sold the port and rail line to Omnitrax.

Ashton said that our region is consistently ignored by Ottawa, and that we have to fight for what other Canadians take for granted, such as healthcare and basic infrastructure.

She added that she has repeatedly called on the government for action, and even though they are starting that action now, it may be too little too late.

She ended her statement by saying that it’s time for the Federal Liberals to renationalize the port and rail line to get things back to normal for Churchill and everywhere along the line.
