Supplies To Come To Churchill In Winter Via Truck

Supplies will be brought to Churchill this winter, but not by train.

A winter ice road is expected to be carved, allowing supplies to be brought to the remote northern community through the winter months.

Work is expected to start on the road around Christmas, with the hauling of supplies starting in January.

Polar Industries, Remote Area Services and Fox Lake Cree Nation are the three groups behind the plan, which has been in the works since June.

The work is currently based on private funding, though the group is hoping the province will step up to the plate and help cover the costs.

It’s expected the drive, from Gillam, will take 20 to 30 hours to complete.
