Spirit Way Inc (S.W.I.) has asked City Council for $30,000.00 to help with projects aimed at promoting tourism in Northern Manitoba, specifically Thompson and Churchill.
Board members made a presentation at city council earlier in the week highlighting the two projects they're looking for help with; a U.K. promotional campaign and the Wolf & Carnivore Conference.
S.W.I. was invited to participate in a tourism project in Wolverhampton, U.K. from May through September. There will be a video board showcasing Northern Manitoba and the opportunity for someone to win a $30,000.00 trip to Thompson and Churchill as well as a sale of trips for Northern Manitoba. Wolverhampton is just under 200km north-west of London.
The U.K. promotion is also slated to be displayed for four weeks at Charing Cross Station in London, with over 150,000 per day walking by.
S.W.I. has a total of 10 projects and events for 2017, with a total cost of $350,000.00, though they say the International Aurora Borealis Conference (Sept. 16-17, 2017) and Wolf & Carnivore Conference (Oct. 21-22, 2017) will bring in between $387,000.00 and $621,000.00 to the community.
