Nelson House Care Home Strike

Employees at a personal care home in Nelson House will be going on strike at the end of the month if their demands aren't reached.

The Federal Government which handles three quarters of the funds for the Care Home is the main opponent at the negotiation table.

Michelle Gawronsky president of the Manitoba Government & General Employees' Union says that the members have been extremely patient but time has run out.

The union is asking to get equal pay of other care homes in Manitoba. The care home is getting 27% less than pay than other homes in Southern Manitoba. She says that employees should be paid equal, and that it's more expensive to live in the North.
