Hydro Won't Commit to Protect Jobs

Mayor Dennis Fenske stood up in front of the board of Manitoba Hydro and addressed job protection during Hydro's Informational Meeting.

Fenske asked for a commitment from Hydro and the protection of jobs for employees that are working on the Bipole III and Keeyask construction projects.

Hydro let Thompsonites know that the construction for both projects will continue as cancelling the projects will cost more money than finishing it.

Hydro failed to give commitment and said that to reduce costs in the next few years, there will be downsizing and more significant job losses when projects end.

Fenske went on to say that significant job losses will impact the city severely along with other companies leaving Northern Manitoba.
