Canadians want a new voting system to elect the federal government, according to consultations set up all over Canada this past weekend.

Members of Parliament set up consultations to discuss possible political reform which has been discussed at the Federal level.

84.3% of Canadians that went to the consultations think that the amount of a political party's seats in parliament should reflect on the percentage of votes that are received.

The Liberals only received 39.5% of the vote during last year's federal election but managed to take a majority of the seats in the House of Commons.

The government has committed to having a new voting system before the next election which would take place in 2019.
