NCN Celebrates New Urban Reserve

The Mystery Lake Lands were home to a celebration that was fifteen years in the making last week.

The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation celebrated the urban reserve which took years to accomplish after a slow process held on to by the last Federal Government.

Provincial and City representatives were on hand for the press conference which preceded festivities and musical acts in the evening.

Mayor Dennis Fenske says that the city is excited to work with NCN which will have financial benefits to both sides.

The process for the urban reserve started back in 2001 and was finally completed earlier this summer. The reserve will give NCN ownership of the Mystery Lake Lands.

The Mayor said he hopes the new Federal Government will work with First Nations in a faster process when applying for urban reserves.
