Business Incentives Could Be on the Way for Thompson

The City of Thompson has been looking at creating business incentives to help benefit growth in the city.

A week after The Pas offered Tolko tax breaks with the agreement that the company would stay in the city, Mayor Dennis Fenske says that the city is looking at creating breaks for businesses in the community.

They hope the incentives would be able to entice businesses to Thompson.

The process is at the development review committee at the moment and will have to go through a few more phases before being presented at council.

This is in preparation of the smelter and refinery closing down at Vale in 2018. Mayor Fenske says that many cities and towns have done this, and it will be a new direction for the city of Thompson.
