City council joins AMM in lobbying province for VLT revenue

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities wants the Province of Manitoba to devote 15% of VLT revenue to address social problems in communities.

Mayor Dennis Fenske explains: "This is an ongoing request through AMM. The reality of it is right now that certain communities in the province generate VLT revenue for the province. We are one of those, we are one of the larger ones that generate revenue, and it’s our feeling that it’s an unfair distribution of those proceeds back to the communities especially from the social needs perspective".

The 15% of VLT revenue would go towards addressing addictions, poverty and homelessness.

During Monday’s council meeting, council unanimously voted to join AMM in their lobbying efforts.
