The NRHA and CancerCare Manitoba have received approval to expand the CancerCare Unit at the Thompson General Hospital.

NRHA CEO Helga Bryant has more on the plans: "The scope is about the same, I mean, the program itself isn’t expanding, it’s just about getting better space so that patients have a little more privacy, staff have more room to move between patients and can do their work in a very safe manner and primarily it is about the patient experience and comfort for them".

Bryant says tenders will be put out in the next weeks, during which time they will finalize a construction timeline.

The unit services over 1,000 cancer patients a year.
