Manitoba Hydro partners with MAPS Thompson

Manitoba Hydro will be working with MAPS Thompson to clean up the Burntwood River. Oswald Sawh with Men Are Part of the Solution talks here about the benefits of this partnership.

“We are going to do some training for the men in regards to the training aspect. They will also get an activity so they aren’t just sitting at home they’ll be actually getting out and doing things, and thirdly they will be getting some income from this as well.”

Training for the men begins this week.

“Well the training for the men begins this week in regards to the safety part because they will be handling chainsaws. We start the week after, Monday morning bright and early. It will take about 4 to 5 weeks. We are looking at wrapping it up by late October.”

Sawh says this happened because of a lot of different people.

“I do want to thank the City of Thompson and I want to thank Hydro for working with MAPS on this. It really fits well with what we are trying to do with the guys. I think it’s a great partnership plus we’re going to clean up this area.”

The debris clean up project will be a multi year program. This year they will be focusing on the north shore between Manasan Falls to the Miles Hart Bridge.
