Healthy living classes are coming to the TRCC.

There are some new classes starting soon focusing on healthy living. Kathleen Hodgins a community dietitian speaks here about the classes.

“We’re calling them the change for healthy living classes and this is the second set of classes we’ve held. We ran one last spring and it was popular so we thought we would run it again. It’s a series of five sessions which starts Tuesday September 16th and will run every second week."

The classes use different types of learning including self reflection and independent work along with group activities.

Lynn Watkins, Health Promotions Coordinator says there are different focuses of the classes and everyone can gain something from them.

“Well the classes build on one another and the content is primarily based on healthy eating and physical activity; so changing your lifestyle activities around those two things. It could be one or the other or if people don’t have both as a concern it doesn’t matter the process we are taking people through will be relevant."

Watkins says a healthy lifestyle is important for many different reasons.

“We can prevent disease. We can not only live longer, but we can live healthier while living longer. We can have a better quality of life. We have more energy and get better sleep, we can feel better about ourselves and interact better with family and friends. It prevents things like heart disease and strokes.”

The classes will be held at the Thompson Regional Community Centre. To register call Lynn Watkins or Kathleen Hodgins at 677 1780 or 677 1788.
